The mass deployment and proliferation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) – EPR and EHR, is hampered by the concern for security and privacy issues. The fast pace of internet technology and hardware breakthrough has created a lag in proper security features in both software (operating systems & applications) and hardware systems.
The session plans to discuss some of the key issues in provision of security features in healthcare environment. The new technologies available – biometrics, smartcard, smartchip, encryption and etc. The evolution and application of healthcare privacy and security policy and procedure in various part of the world i.e. HIPAA etc. The role of OPEN standards and communication protocols (HL-7, DICOM, CEN, ASTM, XML etc.).
