| Abstract |
In clinical settings, cardiologists gather diagnostic data in several formats, including medical history, physical examination, ECGs, echocardiograms, nuclear studies and cardiac catheterization and angiographic studies. As the volume and complexity of these data have increased, use of computers to support data analysis has become a necessity. In addition to computerization of statistical analysis, several other techniques for computer-aided data classification and reduction generally referred to as Artificial Intelligence (AI), have evolved. One promising new AI technique being applied to cardiology is the science of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). This paper reviews the current utilization of ANN in clinical cardiovascular research. |
