Abstract Introduction: E-learning in medical education is fast emerging as a useful tool. However the widespread adoption and utilization would only be possible if learner experience can be as good as or better than conventional methods. Aims & Objectives: To determine the utilization of e-learning in PG exam preparation and identify factors affecting learner experience on the e-learning platform. Methodology: 53 consecutive students using the clicks learning engine to prepare for PG entrance exam were selected for the study. Various parameters of learner experience like interactivity, utility of the method, access to the tests, validity of content, etc. was elicited by interviews and questionnaire based methods. Details of these parameters were also collected from a group of 15 students preparing for PG entrance exams through conventional classroom approach The data was then analyzed using standard statistical methods to compare online learner experience versus offline learner experience. Findings: Online learning as a method of preparing for PG exam was found to be useful (rating of 4 or more on a scale of 1 to 7) by 28 of the 53 students. Most of the students however had difficulties in accessing the program due to technical or bandwidth problems. Lack of adequate computer knowledge was also found to be a major cause of decreased utilization. Content was found to be relevant by majority of students but they would like to have more interactivity. Conclusion: E-learning is an effective method of preparing for PG medical entrance exams. The learner experience is however impaired due to technical difficulties, lack of computer awareness and low bandwidth.
