Abstract |
Electronic Medical Record is the basic necessity for any thing to do with healthcare especially Telemedical Consultation Systems and Health Statistics. Unless the Electronic Medical Record of any individual is complete and accurate, the data in it may lead to wrong inferences and decision making which play havoc in the practice of healthcare. The diagnosis and treatment will not be correct in such a case. The author found in a survey conducted in Delhi’s large hospitals, that about 15% of the in-patient records were either incomplete or incorrect in their information content. The reasons for this state of affairs were many, but were found to be rectifiable. After going through all these medical records and with an experience of more than 20 years in this field in many countries, the author felt the necessity to invent a Non-Statistical Method of Validation Technique for Electronic Medical Records to make them free of all errors as far as possible and complete in their information content. It is more relevant and important in the present days of Global Health Records through Internet and Personal Health Records on portable media where the owners of the health records who are mostly from non-medical professions are encouraged to enter and maintain their own medical records. The autovalidation technique suggested by the author does not allow the concerned people in medical data entry as well as its users to commit mistakes and leave out any of the essential information in medical records. It is simple and easy to implement. In this article, the author describes the details of the common errors found in medical records and the methodology of the autovalidation |
