Abstract TCS has been developing healthcare solutions for clients in India and abroad since the 1980s. Being a pioneer in this field with extensive resources spread across various locations in the world, TCS has considerable expertise in developing and maintaining software solutions for a number of HealthCare clients including hospitals around the world.

The HealthCare group at TCS aims at offering comprehensive Information Technology (IT) products and services including HealthCare consulting and end-to-end solutions to the HealthCare Industry. The group specialises in development, customisation, implementation and support to various health care information and management related solutions and products. The products include Hospital Management System (HMS), SmartClinic and ICUMS.

TCS believes that each hospital is unique in its requirements and priorities. HMS is an ongoing product enhancement program and covers the entire gamut of hospital activities. TCS has a dedicated team exclusively working on enhancements, customisation and development of HMS and a support team, which attends to project specific implementation and training. HMS also offers the flexibility of allowing a hospital to choose from various modules, according to its immediate needs.

TCS has developed a core package - Hospital Management System (HMS), which addresses all the major functional areas of hospitals. HMS is a comprehensive Hospital Management System developed by TCS for medium to large-size hospitals. The package has been developed on the latest relational database system technology (Oracle 8i and Developer 6i). The technology also ensures that data is secured and can be recovered in case of a system failure. There is also a VB/SQL-Server version of HMS available.

HMS can be broadly divided into four major sub-categories i.e., Patient Care, Hospital Administration, Ancillary Services and Miscellaneous Operations. Each sub-category comprises the following modules:
