Abstract Aravind has adopted a successful service delivery model, High Volume, High Quality, Low Cost making it affordable to all classes of people. To strengthen its mission of eradicating needless blindess, Aravind has now embraced Tele-ophthalmology, first of its kind in the field of eye care in the country. Today, there is large disparity in the distribution and availability of tertiary care centres and human resources offering speciality services like Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Corneal Disorders. Tele-ophthalmology, an evolving force in the ophthalmic field could be attempted to bridge this gap to certain extent. This technology is being explored within Aravind network in an innovative approach by integrating this technology into its regular work: patient consultations that would help patients access speciality care; standardise the quality of education & training offered; and provide consultancy for the sustainable development of other eye care programmes. Currently, Aravind has taken up: 1) Video conferencing and tele-consultations between Aravind-Madurai and Aravind-Coimbatore using ISDN lines. 2) N-logue, NGO links rural areas through SARI – Sustainable Access in Rural India using Wireless Access System. Aravind interfaces with N-Logue enabling the rural people access eye care.
