Abstract |
The proliferation of new information resources, the rapid development of access and retrieval methods associated with them, and the unprecedented creation of global electronic information and communication resources have made the Internet an important component of many users' information environments. As federal health care contributions to health care systems decrease, and as the population increases, telemedicine is seen as a strategy for cost containment and for increasing the quality of health care delivery. The hospitals can create the Network for patient care, a shared clinical data repository which will store encounter records, hospital abstracts, clinical laboratory data, prescription data and other data for use by emergency departments and primary care providers. The hospitals can be linked via a common telemedicine network that includes a World Wide Web interface to electronic medical records; secure clinical e-mail for clinician-to- clinician and clinician-to-patient interactions; electronic delivery and management of x-rays and other clinical images; and access to medical library resources, such as MEDLINE and full-text journals. The hospitals can use everyday World Wide Web technology to support information search and retrieval, and state-of-the-art security technology to ensure patient privacy and the integrity of patient information. The multimedia/web based renal information system developed, consisting of the details about normal and medical renal diseased images look more interesting as an easier reference source. Similarly, web based medical information systems can be developed and hosted in web as reference tool. Internet also has provided several potentialities to medical students /researchers /doctors /engineers /paramedical staff /patients /persons interested in medical field, a wealth of up-to-date resources; give access to specialists in a number of disciplines; facilitate in accessing and searching of national and international databases, acquire and process information electronically and facilitate easy and fast access to electronic information at the global level. . There is no doubt that the digital revolution is leading to big changes all over the world. This conference paper explains the web based medical information system, necessary hardware and software required for connecting to Internet in a networked environment and how Information Technology is useful for e-education and training. Researchers hope that this "electronic education" will help patients manage their disease more effectively.
