Abstract |
The recent technological advancements in Computer Integrated Surgery (CIS) are well recognized. However, the escalating costs for commercial technology may be beyond the reach of many hospitals in our national health system and other hospitals worldwide. By combining the current state-of-the-art in CIS with recent developments in computer graphics and visualization techniques, a more cost effective and beneficial solution may be implemented.
Since, we are developing a surgical planning tool for Stereotactic Frameless Neurosurgery. Its objective is to prepare faster planes; have a secured and more accurate choice of target points. Computer Tomography (CT) scanned images are imported to the software. With the help of this tool the surgeon can find the exact target location and safest direction for operating the defective area. If validated by clinical study now under way, this will improve medical efficacy and reduce costs. This paper deals with Image registration and reduction to obtain better results on the CT Scan images being acquired as input.
