Abstract This paper discusses about a rule based system for diagnosis of angina pectoris. Angina is a symptom for various clinical conditions like pulmonary disease, pericardial disease, gastrointestinal disease, apart from coronary artery disease, when angina is considered as a major symptom of ischemic heart disease. Patients may present abdominal pain as chest pain. This system is not targeted towards expert clinicians and developed mainly to prevent errors of omission and to increase the level of diagnostic confidence. This system was not tested in a real clinical situation or setting. The rule based system is developed in Microsoft Visual FoxPro 7.0. The database was structured in FoxPro, which can be imported to any clinical information system as FoxPro databases are standard in ODBC components, This is feasible for epidemiological studies. The data from the Visual FoxPro was imported and analyzed with CARTŪ by Salford Systems. CART is based on the methodology of binary recursive portioning. Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis (WEKA) by The University of Waikato was used to study the dataset as well
