| Abstract |
Abstract Advances in modern technology and imaging techniques allow physician to diagnose the diseases using the images taken through different imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray images. But the presence of noises, artifacts, lack of expert domain knowledge complicates the task of diagnosis. In the case of renal calculi or kidney stones, serious problems are faced due to obstructions in bladder and ureter. In order to have an efficient diagnosis, it is required to extract the renal calculi from ultrasound image, and analyze it using different image processing techniques. These features obtained from images like area, perimeter, shape number of renal calculi helps the physician to decide the future course of treatment with more accuracy. The proposed work is about the expert systems to assist the doctor to detect, classify and diagnose the renal calculi with greater accuracy. For a given ultrasonic image as input, the expert systems suggest the mode of treatment. The system is built on Java expert Shell (JESS) and also onVP expert. Thirty Ultrasound images are used as input for the expert system. The results obtained from the expert system are in uniformity with physician diagnosis.
